seriously, no strings.
Our director staff’s main goal is to empower people who work here and love them well. We extend that empowerment to those who are in the process of trying to decide if working here is the best choice for them.
We want you to bring your best self to your interview. Often anxiety during an interview can hinder your best self from showing up.
We want you to feel confident and prepared, so we’re giving away 3 of our interview questions and 5 qualities we’re looking for while we interview, no strings attached.

Racquel Reekie
PARKVILLE DAY CAMP + STAFF RECRUITMENT DIRECTOR
Racquel, our Parkville Day Camp and Staff Recruitment Director, excels at making camp an amazingly fun place for day campers as well as connecting with college students on the recruitment trail. After serving on Heartland’s summer staff for a couple of years, God brought her back to serve full-time! Her love for people, the outdoors, and her quick wit make her a perfect fit for the role and this director team. When not in the office at Heartland, you can find her swing dancing with friends or reading at coffeeshops in Kansas City.
"I was introduced to Heartland during a college recruitment visit my freshman year. Jared recruited my dear college friend then, and she took me back with her the following year. I served two summers, went away to New Zealand, and then the Lord called me back full time!" -Racquel

Jared Briscoe
OVERNIGHT PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Jared fearlessly leads our Overnight Camp program. Fun Fact: It started in 1958 and it's Heartland's longest running program! He brings a passion for intentionally getting to know each of our summer staff (because he was one once) while helping them to grow in their faith as they serve our campers. Oh, and he LOVES playing games and being an example for kids to open up and be silly.
"I came to Heartland first as a middle school camper through a friend of a friend. In my time as a high school camper, Heartland became my favorite place on earth and I have been a part of this ministry ever since." -Jared

Anna Mitchell
TRAVELING DAY CAMP + GAP YEAR PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Anna leads our incredible Traveling Day Camp program with her seemingly unending joy and brilliant mind for logistics. She's been on summer staff and loves to encourage and empower her staff as they travel around the mid-west. We don't know how she does it, but she is always on the go and giving her all to everything she does. Oh, and she's a champion at Rubik's cubes and has the most beautiful singing voice.
"My Grandfather served as the Executive Director at Heartland from 1965-1990. I am so excited to follow in his footsteps as a Heartland director 30 years after he retired!" -Anna

Does this sound like you?
We want people who are passionate about showing everyone around them how to follow Christ and are willing to share their gifts with our ministry. They are ready to work hard with resilient joy, grow alongside a once-in-a-lifetime community, and also can't wait to be silly and scream songs at the top of their lungs!
-
No problem! Neither had we until we did. If you love Jesus, kids, dominating the foam slip-n-slide, are ready to work really hard, and want to live in a Christ-centered community while growing deeper in your faith, you’re just the kind of person we’re looking for.
-
First of all, you can ALWAYS start and save your work for later! Hooray!

We LOVE when people come to encourage you and catch a glimpse of your camp life. We recommend inviting visitors only on Saturday (your day off). You’ll typically be too busy and too focused during the week to give them the attention they deserve! Also, we’re not able to accommodate overnight visitors, so you’d need to take care of those details on your own.
-
Each staff is responsible for providing or finding their own transportation during their off time.
We do have several international and national staff that have traveled by plane to get to us.
Because of that, our directors and staff are always willing to offer rides to run errands in town or let you call shotgun on weekend adventures.
-
While each staff is responsible for their own transportation to and from camp, the Kansas City Airport (MCI) is only a short 15-minute drive from camp.
Send us your flight details and we will be happy to arrange a ride to and from the airport for you.
-
We’d be mad if you didn’t.
Plus, we’ll send you a full packing list with ALL the details of what to bring once you’ve been hired!
