We don’t want this to happen to you!

So, we’ve made a list of our BEST Interview tips and even give away some questions to help you prepare to ROCK your interview!

Preparing for Your Christian Camp Job Interview + Questions

We often hear that interviewing for these Christian summer camp positions can feel intimidating. Knowing what an employer is looking for before you interview can be a big relief! We’re here for you. So, go ahead and take a big deep breathe, get ready to take some notes and feel THE MOST prepared.

INTERVIEW TIPS + QUESTIONS WE ASK WHEN HIRING

  1. Show Up On Time

    • Get instant points in your interview by being on time and ready. Nothing ruins your first impression like ghosting an interviewer. Get extra points for sending a pre-interview email an hour or so before letting your interviewer know that you’re excited and looking forward to talking with them!

    • P.s. We know life happens and if you do have to reschedule send an email or a phone call and it’s almost guaranteed you’ll be met with understanding and grace.

  2. Knowledge of Our Mission

    • Sometimes it is painfully clear that an applicant doesn’t know who we are or what our mission is. We love when applicants take the time to read our website and learn about us! It shows that you truly are interested in the position.

  3. Knowing The Job and Your Gifts

    • We love when applicants clearly took time to read the job description and also thought about what gifts they personally have to help them succeed. You can bet that we ask a lot of questions based around your gifts and the requirements of the job.

  4. A Growing Faith

    • We don’t claim to be perfect and we don’t expect you to be either. In fact, imperfection is where God works. We love for our interviewees to be honest with us in what they believe and how they are working on growth in their faith life. We will ask you direct questions about your journey of faith and how you are actively living out your faith. Be prepared, confident and own your story!

  5. Joyfully Adaptive

    • We often ask in our interviews for examples of trials you’ve faced or times when things didn’t go as planned. We all have those! We are asking these to see if you have experience adapting to changes and still finding joy. Camp life is always throwing curve balls and we often have to take them, choose joy, and find a solution!

  6. Ability to Ask For Help

    • Humility is key to living in a Christian community all summer at camp. If we cannot ask for help, we are not allowing others to use their gifts and then we often burn ourselves out. We, at Heartland Camp, certainly don’t expect every candidate to be perfect or possess every skill each position needs. But we do look for their ability (through examples and scenario questions) to ask for help when they need it.

  7. Asking Great Questions

    • At the end of the interview have a few questions prepared that show you are interested in the job and the mission of our camp.

  8. “Thank You” Goes a Long Way

    • Pssssst… what some bonus points? Send a “Thank You” email or note to your interviewer and thank them for their time. You’ll stand out from the rest, we promise.
